The Center of the Rez

This weeks Brightside of Rez is about a young, smart and beautiful Paiute woman named Amara Keller.  She is a Bishop Paiute Tribal member and grew up on the rez.  I approached her about doing one of our Brightside videos thru Instagram.  She shows some great photos of many subjects such as the mountains, her beadwork and I especially like her series called  "Guess What?"  

She was hesitant at first, like most of our brightside stars but eventually she felt more comfortable sharing her stories and as you will see, her charming personality shined through. The memories she had of her reservation, playing softball and her childhood were extremely positive.  We were able to see her at work with the local Even Start program and all of the good work she does for her community. 

Amara also shared with us some cherished childhood memories of her mother and how she shaped Amara's life in an optimistic way.  She truly knows and lives the Brightside of Rez.
