One's Mind - (Native Youth Writer's)

Within these walls my mind goes crazy.
All I really think about is my 3 precious babies!

"Daddy, Daddy, when are you coming home?"
They say.
All I can tell them is 3-to-5 year over the phone, maybe.
So much anger and frustration built up in this father!
All he really wants again is to hold his one and precious daughter!

His other two boys go OK momentarily
They're his father's pride and joy.

So for now, he can eat his mind and let their minds do the discoveries.

Sets of 25's and a smile may be all he can do for now.
But until then - this father may just have to do this 3-to-5!

These poems were submitted as part of a gathering of “Thoughts from Native Youth”.  The Young Native authors of these poems were published as part of the 2015 Collectors Edition of “Indian Education: Meeting the Challenge.”  Many of the writers wished to remain anonymous once their words were published but they certainly had the courage to take the first steps to submit their work in order to contribute to the Native Youth conversations.
